A rare electrotype medal issued by the Richmond Hospital School of Anatomy, Medecine and Surgery, with a bust of Richard Carmichael. Marked for the electrotypist W. A. Fagan. Richard Carmichael (1779-1849) was a distinguished surgeon, who founded the school in 1816 on the outskirts of Dublin. In 1847 he performed the first operation in Ireland under general anaesthesia.
