A scarce terrestrial or surveying quadrant by Dubois, circa 1760
A rare terrestrial or surveying quadrant with both telescopes used in horizontal plan. The instrument is signed “Dubois à Paris” so datable from the 1760s’.The instrument is divided from 0 to 90 degrees.
It is mounted on its original stand. It incorporates several micrometric screws for fine adjustments. A rare portable and diminutive form for the surveying uses of the larger vertical astronomical quadrant.
Telescopes measures 21,5 cm length, 22,5cm width and 18cm height.

A mining compass mounted on a brass square protractor and signed “Rochette jeune au griffon Quai de l’horloge à Paris”, ei Jean Jacques Rochette, but with a retail label from Magnien (who occupied the shop at 75 Quai de l’Horloge from 1822 until ca. 1830, which was the site of Gaspard Rochette’s shop).
The compass can be removed from the protractor and used on a mining stand as a gimbaled compass.

A very fine brass surveying circle with six sights, two of which are mounted on a rotating alidade. The circle measures 15,5 cm diameter. It is signed “Butterfield à Paris” and can be dated circa 1700. It preserves its original cap, which is quite rare.
The instrument is complete with all its sights, its ball joint, and its stand. The circle is divided twice and inverted in 0-180-0 degrees.
