These instruments, recognisable by their anchor logo, were traditionally widely used in shipping and for meteorological purposes. Good frontispiece although first page has a small missing piece from frequent thumbing. 24 hand coloured plates to include continents, countries of Europe, world map, armillary sphere and planetary motion. A very fine and unusual chart or map proportionnal dividers made in brass and steel with four curved points, certainly used in mapping or cartography. The instrument is not signed, but certainly French, circa 1800-1820. The two arms are only one scale divided from 1/2 to 1/12.  The instrument measures 17cm lenght and the case in green morroco lined in green silk and velvet measures 18x4cm. Horizontal round brass sundial with a compass and a movable gnomon with a bird. The top of the plate has four time scales corresponding to latitudes 43, 46, 49 and 52 degrees. WW1 rare slide rule for rapid fire howitzer.

This rare brass slide rule was made in 1904 to be used with the Cannon de 155 CTR. Dated 1904, only 122 such cannons were made, with 104 of them available in 1914 (see link below). The slide rule measures 12 inches long and is 1/2 inch thick. It has various descriptive scales engraved to both sides including: Tir fusent plongeant (Burst of Plunging Fire). Thoracometer by Georges Demeny, made by Otto Lund, a manufacturer and mechanic famous in the history of photography for having built Marey’s first photographic rifle. The instrument bears the small signature of Otto Lund Paris.
