~LARGE, COMPLEX COMPASS/SUNDIAL c.1750~(ON HOLD)
The main compass body is brass with a hand coloured paper overlay. Extremely ornate compass rose and oddly, unsigned.
The compass needle is very slender, ornate and still points North. The pivot is brass and eared c.1750. The paper dial is divided into three (3) scales. A Mariner’s 360 degree (inner) in one degree divisions, a Miner’s 0-32 hour middle ring (each hour being 12.5 degrees- 1/4 hour divisions) and a surveyor’s outer ring (4 quadrants of 0-90 degrees).

Flag panel marine telescope – Gray & Keen, Liverpool.
Quite large, single draw, measuring 20 inches long when closed and 34.75 inches fully open with ray shade, dust slider to the eye piece and coloured flag panel inset to the brown leather covered barrel. Signed near the eye piece, ‘Gray & Keen, Liverpool. Day or Night’ (they worked from 1847 – 1855).

A brass 6 draw telescope signed on the first draw, ‘Baker, 244 High Holborn, London’, measuring 10.5″ closed and 32″ fully extended with a main lens of 2.25″ diameter. It has a leather covered taper barrel, sun visor, lens cap, dust slider to the eye piece and an additional pancratic eye piece tube with powers engraved for 25, 30 and 35 x. Four draw telescope – Ross.
A four draw brass telescope, the first draw is engraved, ‘Ross. London. No 25758’. Also engraved with the initials, ‘B.M.’ (presumably the owner).
The telescope measures 26 cm when closed and 85 cm fully extended with a main lens of 42 mm.
The first draw is a pancratic eye piece with indicated magnifications of 20, 25 and 30 x.
Very clear to look through with damage free lenses.
The number of the telescope (25758) estimates it’s production of around 1895.
